Schwarzesmarken is an anime adaptation of the light novel and visual novel series of the same name. It began to air on January 11 2016 and was produced by Liden Films and ixtl. It is the second anime adaptation of the Muv-Luv universe following Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse in 2012.

Synopsis[]

In 1983 the Nationale Volksarmee, the East German Army, is desperately holding out as the European bulwark against the BETA, a hostile extraterrestrial species that has pushed back humanity further and further since they invaded earth in 1973. The 666th Schwarzesmarken TSF Squadron is an elite unit of Tactical Surface Fighter pilots tasked with diving deep behind enemy lines to eliminate the highest priority targets. The story follows Theodor Eberbach, a member of the Schwarzesmarken Squadron, as he faces not just the threat of the BETA, but also the threat of his fellow humans.

Broadcast[]

The show aired in Japan from January 11 2016 to March 28 2016 on TV Tokyo, as well as on AT-X, TV Aichi and TV Osaka. Internationally it aired on Crunchyroll.

Physical Releases[]

A total of six Blu-Ray boxes were released in Japan from after the show aired, from March to August of 2016, covering all 12 episodes. There were no official physical releases outside of Japan.
