Muv-Luv Dimensions (マブラヴ:ディメンションズ) is a free to play smartphone action RPG with gacha elements, released on July 11, 2023. It was initially released under the title Immortals: Muv-Luv Alternative on March 17, 2022 before shutting down indefinitely due to major bugs, and then relauched as Dimensions on July 11, 2023.

Background[]

A first live version of the game was introduced on âge's 20th anniversary broadcast in October 2019 by lead developer Kitakuou, after he has contacted series creator Yoshimune Kouki on Twitter about creating an action game in the Muv-Luv franchise. The original working title of the game was Project Immortal, mirroring the title of Project MIKHAIL .

After no updates for an entire year, Kitakuou appeared on the event Web Student Assembly in October 2020, dressed as Takamura Yui from Muv-Luv Alternative Total Eclipse and apologized for the lack of progress, which was fueled in part by his own lack of discipline.

On the Web Student Assembly taking place in the following year in October 2021, Kitakuou appeared again, announcing the new title Immortals: Muv-Luv Alternative as well as confirming a release for 2021. First character art was also shared.

The game will be free to play on mobile devices and be financed by gacha mechanics. Details on how exactly these are to be implemented - apart from that players can unlock new characters - have not been revealed yet.

Setting[]

In a present day alternative timeline in which BETA attack humanity and the main character, a director working for the eponymous private military company "Immortals" is tasked with recapturing Yokohama after a BETA hive was constructed there.

The cast is made up of characters that appear in the Muv-Luv trilogy and its various side stories such as Schwarzesmarken and Total Eclipse as well as an array of original characters. For the characters that appear in the main trilogy, the voice actors from the anime adaptation reprise their roles.

Gameplay[]

Immortals Action Gameplay

A squad of TSFs engaging the BETA

The gameplay is divided in story sections that are presented similar to the visual novel with character sprites, as well as Action RPG fight scenes in an isometric 3D perspective. Players can make up squads of up to four characters with an additional four characters acting as support and choose their prefered TSF and weapon loadouts. Players move along the battlefield evading and decimating hordes of BETA using standard attacks and character-specific skills such as Ikaruga's EML-99X Electromagnetic Induction Launcher. Enemies drop weapons and sub weapon systems that can be used to inflict additional passive damage. The strength of each piece of equipment depends on its item level. During the gameplay, players are also rewarded with resources that can be used to manufacture TSFs.

The game has only been released in Japan. However, it may eventually receive a western release.

The game first released as "Immortals" on March 17, 2022. Prior to release, a twitter campaign was started with various tiers of in-game rewards for reaching up to 50000 followers. But very shortly after release due to a large number of bugs, including an exploit that allowed players to receive unlimited quantities of the in-game currency for free, the game was taken off the Apple App Store and Google Play Store on the same day were put under maintenance indefinitely.[1]

Development of the game was shifted to the company NextNinja, a mobile game developer known for titles such as Grand Summoners and Touhou Lost Worlds. On December 22, 2022, the new title Muv-Luv Dimensions as well as changes to the gameplay and narrative of the game were announced. Over the next few months multiple changes to the game would shown such as adding voice lines for many characters SR and above, among other things.

There was also a pre-registration campaign that began in April giving rewards for every 50000 registrations such as many in game rewards, a scenario based on Kimi ga Nozomu Eien by Yoshimune, porting Teito Moyu to mobile and free release of the Teito Moyu's LN adaptation, up to 500,000. Dimensions hit 450,000, getting all of the above rewards.

The game was released as "Muv-Luv Dimensions" on July 11th, 2023.

On December 20th, 2024, it was announced that the game will shut down on June 30th, 2025.[2]
